Drum Major Auditions – Carolina Gold
Carolina Gold is having Open Auditions for Drum Majors for the 2012 Season. Auditions will happen at the camp this weekend February 10-12, 2012. If you are interested in auditioning to be a Drum Major for Carolina Gold, please send a cover letter outlining your experience to Tony Granados, Brass Caption Head, at brass@carolinagold.org, and make plans to attend the camp this weekend.
The drum major will be responsible for the following duties, and other duties as assigned:
- Conduct for warm ups and rehearsals / Performances
- Be sure metronome and long ranger is ready for all rehearsals
- Makes sure rehearsal spaces are set up and cleaned up
- Assign Cleaning duties
- Wake the corps up in the morning
- Librarian / Music – Keeps music and deals with issues.
- Effectively communicate the schedule to corps members.
- Reinforce expectations of preparedness, conduct, and etiquette.
- Communicate with staff and support staff to head off and solve problems.
- Encourage member preparedness and morale
The audition will consist of the following:
1. Spending time conducting the brass section and working with the brass and visual staff about process and rehearsal etiquette.
2. Evaluation of conducting technique and style in warm ups and on the show music. (Opener)
3. Interview. Be prepared to to talk about (at least) the following topics:
- What ideas do you have about delegation, and organization?
- Ways you have contributed to Carolina Gold (or other group).
- What about your past participation in the (this or any) group do you feel has established you as a leader in the eyes of the members of the organization? —
- What do you consider to be your greatest strengths as they pertain to the position of drum major?
- How would you anticipate your peers rating your strengths as they pertain to the position(s) of drum major?
- What experience do you have that will make you a strong candidate for drum major?
- What do you think a drum major should do?
