Youth Band Flash Mob
The Youth Bands here are trying to raise money to purchase a brand new set of instruments. I came up with an idea to do a flash mob, or something similar with limitations of brass bands. After going through this, I can only imagine how much work goes into putting together a really good one. This was rather tricky to put together. The students had to learn and memorize four short pop charts, in addition to all of the other music they have to learn. We had one rehearsal where we did the “tech” rehearsals to figure out logistically how to do it. This was back in April before we went on tour. We were going to attempt to do it on our tour but things got a little twisted around and instead, we played in Ohio State’s Football Stadium instead.
It took me a long time to even get the manager of the Streets of Southpoint on the phone to set this up here. It came together rather easily, but was really tough to rehearse because we had more important music to go over for our concert coming up. We did not rehearse the flash mob music enough. Maybe someday I will put one of these together and do it all out, with tons of planning, but its really difficult to do it under the circumstances we work under with the youth band.
The whole idea is to try to get something on the internet to get a lot of traffic and push people towards our youth band website for online donations to our instrument fund. We need to raise a lot of money so we can get a new set of horns for the band. So, if you are reading this, and have not checked out our website and sent in a donation, please consider doing so. Even a little bit will help.
I must say, that all things considered, tonight’s event went very well, and I owe it all to the great kids we have in this program. I am continually impressed with their maturity and poise when they are in the public eye to perform. They deserve a huge THANK YOU and WELL DONE from me for making this seem so easy. Awesome to work on projects with these kids.
