It is graduation time for college kids now and this morning I played at the NC State graduation at the RBC Center. It’s a ten piece brass ensemble and is pretty good. We play brass quintet charts and double so we can rotate breaks. We play a half hour prelude concert and the processional is very long, say 20-25 minutes. So it is a solid hour of playing with no breaks so the doubling really helps.

Word on the street was that this was the largest graduation class in the schools history. I have been playing the graduations for several years and it sure was packed today. The upper levels had people in the audience and that was a first as far as I can tell. The grads spilled over into the first section. It sure was a lot of newly unemployed and uninsured people to put out there. Here are some pics and a video from my seat bowing the crowd.
