Review
Friday- had the day off. Spent some time researching game systems and then went to get the Xbox 360. I have an HDTV now and my Xbox, which is close to eight years old, wasn’t cutting it. The difference is astounding. It’s all wireless and the graphics are stunning. I can even play people online. It was a relaxing day.
Saturday- I judged the Sanderson HS band competition all day. I met a couple really cool people Scott Carter from ecu who I knew by his great reputation, Marty spitzer who is at uncp, and Ben harloff who is from Minnesota and would be a great guy to bring in to work with the youth band. Saw a lot of local bands and for the most part they were really good. Most bands do not play with enough dynamic contrast, mostly on the louder end of the spectrum. They are playing outside. One band
Stood out from the rest and it was because they has it all. They played great and covered all dynamics and did it well. Probably the best hs marching band I’ve ever seen. Congrats to wjhs.
Sunday- My first real concert with the Triangle Brass Band was at the Carolina Theater. We split the show with the Cedar Ridge HS Wind Symphony and they had Dr. Jim Hile as a guest. The concert was very well received and CRHS played great. It was nice to see them get into this concert. TBB was really good. The band seems to be responding well to what I am doing with them, and they sounded really polished and energetic. I could not have asked for a better inaugural concert with the band.
It was a very busy weekend, but rewarding.
